FRP Rebars for Construction – Description
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) rebars are high-strength, lightweight reinforcement bars used as an alternative to traditional steel reinforcement in concrete structures. They are manufactured using continuous fibers such as glass (GFRP), carbon (CFRP), or basalt (BFRP) embedded in a polymer resin matrix.
Key Features:-
Corrosion-resistant – Ideal for marine, coastal, and chemical environments
-
Lightweight – About 75% lighter than steel
-
High tensile strength – 2–3 times stronger than steel in tension
-
Non-magnetic & non-conductive – Suitable for hospitals, power plants, and MRI rooms
-
Low maintenance – Longer service life with reduced repair costs
-
Bridges and flyovers
-
Marine structures and ports
